Overview of Westdale

Neighborhood

The Westdale neighborhood is one of the smallest geographical neighborhoods in the St. Louis Park, comprising just 38 acres of land. Westdale lies in the northwest corner of the city between the Kilmer and Westwood neighborhoods. Westdale is bordered by Highway 394 to the north, Highway 169 to the west, West 16th Avenue to the south, and Flag Avenue to the east. There are a total of 106 single family houses in the 6 residential blocks of Westdale.   The neighborhood was a part of the postwar building boom in St. Louis Park and was originally developed by Bruce Construction. Westdale was subdivided in 1954 and most single family homes that were constructed were ramblers. The average construction year of houses in the neighborhood is 1958. Many of the houses in Westdale overlook the beautiful greens of the Minneapolis Golf Club.

Westdale is completely residential, with no commercial establishments in the neighborhood. However, residents can travel across I-394 to Kip’s Irish Pub & Restaurant, which is a local favorite. The establishment was started by an Irishman by the name of Kip Finnegan in 2005 and features a new outdoor patio with a gas fire pit. One of Kip’s most popular dishes is the famous chicken boxy.

Golfers will enjoy the neighborhood’s close proximity to the Minneapolis Golf Club. MGC is aEntrance to Minneapolis Golf Club historic private golf course that is member-owned. The club was founded in 1916 and considered one of the most prestigious golf clubs in the state of Minnesota. MGC hosts numerous tournaments throughout the year and offers lessons and leagues for members. The club features a grand ballroom, fireside, pool, lounge, and delicious food options.

The only park located in Westdale is Westwood Park. Westwood Hills Nature Center is spread out over 160 acres of land that consists of marshes, restored prairie land, and woods. Visitors that venture on the park’s trail will see foxes, deers, minks, and owls. The nature center also provides programs throughout the year to increase the community’s awareness and appreciation of the environment.
